Storing your beauty products in the fridge? Sounds odd, right? Don’t judge too soon, because according to scientists there may be some truth to this DIY remedy for making your beauty products last longer.

Chemicals react faster at higher temperatures. When it comes to making cosmetics last longer, lower temperatures are generally better because it slows down chemical processes such as oxidation which occurs in products like make-up and moisturizers. These products contain oils that turn rancid. Storing perfumes in the fridge is beneficial as well since fragrances contain so many ingredients that will go bad over time.

You can never let your products freeze. If you freeze your moisturizer for example, the water and oil in the product will separate and will literally fall a apart and your product will be ruined. Your lipstick can “sweat” as well in the fridge. The oil from the wax will rise to the surface and create beads of “sweat”, which will make putting on your lipstick a bit difficult.

Be sure to contain your products if you do decide refrigerate them. If something spills, you don’t want it getting all over the inside of your fridge, and you also don’t want to contaminate your food. Containing your products also keeps them from absorbing food odors.

If you’re not into refrigeration, make sure you store your products in cool, dry, dark place. The more light, the faster your products will spoil.

It was really important for her to not only feel good, but look good as well.

“I did have a fresh eyebrow wax,” Beyonce told People. “I got my nails done, I got my feet done, had my hair done, and I had my little lip gloss.”

But after being in the delivery room, the glam had to go.

“I didn’t feel that I looked beautiful during birth, but who does? After being pumped with all those fluids and gaining so much weight…I barely recognized myself. But after many hours of labor, I could care less about anything but my child. I didn’t care how I looked.”

“I felt more powerful than I’ve ever felt in my life,” the 30-year-old told the magazine. “I felt connected to my body. I felt like I knew my purpose in the world.”

Beyoncé said she gained about 50 pounds during her pregnancy, but 4 months after giving birth, is now 3 to 4 pounds away from her pre-pregnancy weight. She went on to say that breasts feeding helped a lot with weight-loss, but that counting and exercise 3 to 4 times aw week will always be the ingredients to her fabulous figure.

“I lost most of my weight from breast-feeding and I encourage women to do it; It’s just so good for the baby and good for yourself,” she said, noting that she breast-fed Blue for 10 weeks.

Still, if her body’s not quite as hard as it was before, it’s a small price she’s only too happy to pay.

“Your body produces the hormones that make your body soft,” she said. “It’s just magical. It makes me so proud to be a woman because it’s just unexplainable what happens to your body—it’s incredible.”

Would You Consider Intermittent Fasting to Lose Weight?

I really do believe that a person has to feel some sort of hunger pains in order to lose weight. No one should starve themselves, but anyone on a calorie deficit should feel mental hunger, and losing weight is all about being calorie deficient.

Intermittent fasting is about balancing periods of extreme calorie restriction (fasting) into your lifestyle. Some experts believe that short term fasting can speed fast loss and improve the body’s ability to retain more muscle as compared to the popular advice of eating 4 to 6 meals per day.

Two most commonly used fasting methods:

Longer IF 1-2x a week: This is taking a longer fasting period of say for up to 24 hours and repeating 1-2x a week. Note that 24 hours is not skipping a whole day, as stopping to eat on 6pm Tues and then having your next meal at 6pm Wed is 24 hours. I usually don’t talk about anything longer than 24-32 hours for using IF, as most research is usually based on that fasting window (even if some studies have more frequency with alternate day fasting).

Shorter More “Daily” IF: This means that it is done more than a couple times a week with a condensed eating window and less fasting than seen above. I also like to call this “Intermittent Feeding” instead of fasting. For example someone could be eating their calories in a 8-6 hour window more daily (and the fasting does happen around it).

Why Intermittent Fasting Might Make Sense to You:

Throughout evolution of Homo Sapiens, one would assume that the human body was in a fasted state a lot of the time. Hunting and gathering was difficult in the wild, and food was scarce. Mimicking these conditions has showed to have benefits on the human body. Not to mention, you can eat whatever you want! The periods of fasting balanced out the calorie intake. Intermittent fasting is also touted as being beneficial in not only lifestyle and fat loss, but getting in touch with one’s body and abdominal definition.

Have you tried intermittent fasting? Does it sound like something that’d be beneficial?

“Road Trip” star Mia Amber Davis died in May 2011 due to complications involving pulmonary embolism. Mia’s widower, Michael Yard, is claiming that her OBGYN prescribed her birth control pills that greatly increase one’s risk for pulmonary embolism. Mia’s obesity combined with the birth control put her at even greater risk according to her widower.

Mia died May 10, 2011, from blood clots in the lungs just one day after undergoing knee surgery.

TMZ Reports:

Mia’s widower claims his wife’s doctor SHOULD HAVE suggested condoms or other methods of birth control as an alternative … because the drugs “greatly increased her risk for a pulmonary embolism and ultimately caused her death.”

To make matters worse, Mia’s widower claims Mia went to a family practitioner on April 18 to complain about knee pain. The doc allegedly cleared Mia for knee surgery … despite a number of risk factors, including obesity, hyperlipidemia and the fact she was on Zenchent.

Mia’s widower claims the doc “should have advised [Mia] to eliminate some of her other risk factors prior to clearing her for the surgery.”

Yard is suing the family practitioner and OGBYN for unspecified damages.

It is estimated that over 150 million women worldwide take birth control. Federal health regulator said they are adding labeling to birth control outlining the risks of blood clots even though, they still conclude blood clothes to be very rare.

Jennifer Hudson’s new book, “I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down,” focuses on her recent weight loss and fitness struggles. She went on the Today Show promoting the new book saying she wishes to inspire others so they can say “I can do this”. The singer narrates the journey from her humble beginnings in Chicago, to her rise to fame and International success. A selection from the book:

Introduction

“Jennifer! Over here!”
“Jennifer, look this way.”
“Jennifer, Jennifer.”
“Over here!”
“No, over here!”
“Jennifer, turn to the right!”

I always dreamed of someday walking the red carpet in Hollywood. Let’s be real. It’s fun. Everyone there is shouting out your name just to get a glimpse of what you’re wearing. The press asks you to pose, wave, and smile as they snap photo after photo, with flashes popping so bright you can hardly see. It’s a moment in time a girl feels truly beautiful. And on this particular night, I thought I was looking fierce.

It was one of my first red-carpet events. I was a contestant on American Idol, and was living my dream of singing for millions of people on the highest-rated show on television. I was a long way from singing in church and talent shows on the South Side of Chicago. I was excited, taking in the red-carpet finery for the first time. I felt on top of the world.
“Jennifer, are you insecure about being a ‘big girl’ in Hollywood?”
That is, until that question.
Oh, hell no. She didn’t just ask me that.

But she did.
It took me a minute to figure out who the reporter was actually talking to.
Who, me? I thought. Insecure?
Surely, she wasn’t addressing me that way. I had the height of a supermodel, breasts that were naturally big and real, and a God-given shape. Why would I feel insecure about that? I looked around hoping to spot another Jennifer—an insecure “big girl, but there wasn’t anyone else there.
Nope.
Just me.
Like Randy Jackson said to me after my American Idol audition:

Beyoncé and Jay-Z welcomed their bundle of joy, Blue Ivy Carter, Saturday night in New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital. Despite their joy, there are reports of an upset parent who complained out Beyoncé’s security and the inconvenience it caused within the hospital. It’s been reported that Beyoncé and Jay-Z rented out an entire floor at the hospital for $1.3 million. Privacy and security have been stated as reasons for the expensive reservation. Did Jay and Beyoncé consider a home birth at all? Their options are limitless, especially for $1.3 million. Was renting out the entire floor at an hospital reasonable?

At home births

“Homebirth is about creating a safe birthing environment in your home while protecting the woman’s privacy and maintaining an intimate family atmosphere”

Advantages of home births

Statistics show home births are as safer or safer than hospital births, as long as the woman is at low-risk, has adequate prenatal and a proper midwife.

At home a woman can be comfortable in her surroundings, and is able to choose everything from her attire to who is in the room.

The risk of infection is lowered from mom and baby.

Studies show that the risk of infection is reduced for both the mother and the baby.

Mid-wives are a huge help. They give continuous one-on-one are to the midwife, and provide an ongoing assessment of the the baby and mother’s condition. Their relationship is established in trust.

Disadvantages of home births

Since the hospital is the currently socially acceptable location for birth, choosing otherwise may result in negative judgments and lack of support.

lient’s must assume a greater level of responsibility for their own health: physical, mental and spiritual. This requires active ongoing participation in decision making in all aspects of their care, and a willingness to accept the consequences of those choices and decisions.

Advantages of a hospital births

It gives mothers a sense of security. It’s where they feel most safe.

If a mother has a medical condition that classifies her as high-risk, a hospital is the safest place to be.

If the mother needs emergency treatment, personnel is available.

Being in a hospital is a must if the mother is having a cesarean section.

If the baby needs medical care, a hospital can provide that immediately on site, versus having to take the child off site.

There is help for mother and baby around the clock.

Disadvantages of hospital births

Less sense of control of the environment.

Having a baby is not an illness. Hospitals are usually associated with being sick, thus that’s how the mother is treated.

Hospitals can be emotionally cold and intimidating.

Not as much privacy as one would have with a home birth.

Fathers are not as involved in the birth.

Risk of infection is greater.

The mother is a high risk of having a cesarean section that is unnecessary.

Separate of mother and child is routine.

Not much rest is allowed for the mother.

What would you have done if you were Beyoncé and Jay-Z?

We should be well aware at this point that sodas are bad for us due to the sheer amount of sugar and calories in one serving. Most of those calories from from the sugary syrup that is mixed with the carbonated water to make this delicious beverage. A popular substitute for soda is carbonated water with some kind of fruit flavoring. But what bout the carbonated water itself? Is it beneficial? Below is commentary from two Mayo Clinic nutritionists on how carbonated water can effect calcium absorption:

Is there any nutritional downside to drinking carbonated water? This is a question we are often asked. Carbonated water is purported to prevent calcium absorption, thus increasing the risk of osteoporosis.

In reality there’s no good evidence that carbonated water causes harm to your bones. The confusion may arise because of research that found a connection between carbonated cola drinks and low bone mineral density. But this association wasn’t seen with noncola carbonated drinks. So if you like the bubbles, you can keep sipping your carbonated water.

If you’re open to trying other types of water, there’s some promising research that mineral waters with calcium may actually benefit your bones.

Keep your bones healthy with calcium-rich foods such as low-fat dairy, fortified foods and vegetables. Regular weight-bearing exercise is important as well.

Both carbonated water and mineral water are usually calorie free, but check the label to be sure. If you’re looking to add a little flavor, just add a squeeze of lime or lemon.

Are you concerned enough about your calcium intake to give up carbonated water all together?
